Nous connaissons bien le championnat français de Roller Derby et ses divisions Elite, Nationale 1, Nationale 2. Mais comment fonctionne le Roller Derby à l'étranger? Nous avons contacté la "Lega Italiana Roller Derby" pour connaître le fonctionnement du championnat en Italie. Retrouvez ici une brève introduction au championnat transalpin.

MRD: "Bonjour la LIRD, nous vous avons contactée pour présenter sur notre site le Roller Derby italien. Nous avons vu que le 25-26 mai s'était déroulé le championnat italien 2024, pouvez-vous nous parler du championnat et du Roller Derby en Italie?

LIRD: Tout d'abord, merci de nous avoir contactée. En Italie, le roller derby est encore très très – très petit. Aujourd'hui, il n'y a que 13 ligues dans tout le pays et 8 d'entre elles participent au championnat de cette année. Toute équipe souhaitant participer au tournoi peut le faire en s'inscrivant au mois d'août avant le début de la saison.

MRD: Comment s'organisent les matchs et le championnat?

LIRD: Cette année nous avons divisé les équipes en 2 groupes en fonction du classement de l'année dernière. Dans le groupe 1, il y avait les équipes classées 1, 3, 5 et 8 de l'année dernière et dans le groupe 2, les autres équipes. Toutes ces équipes se sont affrontées sur quatre manches, deux par groupe. Ces quatre manches se sont déroulées en Novembre, Décembre, Février et Mars à Bologne, qui offre un emplacement central pour les équipes participant. Puis les 8 équipes ont été réunies sur un dernier week-end, cette année à Padoue les 25-26 mai. Le samedi 25 mai, les équipes des différents groupes se sont affrontées entre elles. Puis le dimanche 26 mai, quatre matchs finaux à élimination directe ont eu lieu pour établir le classement final. La raison d'étaler le championnat sur cinq week-ends est que nous voulons que toutes les équipes jouent le plus possible.

MRD: Combien d'années d'existence compte le championnat italien?

LIRD: Nous jouons en 2024 notre troisième championnat national. Le "Brace For Impact", le nom du championnat italien, a commencé en 2021 juste après la pandémie, au cours de laquelle le mouvement italien du roller derby, déjà faible, a été durement touché.

MRD: Quelles sont les équipes ayant déjà été titrées?

LIRD: Les premiers championnats italiens ont été remportés par les Anguanas de Vicence puis la deuxième année, les Harpies de Milan ont pris la première place. L'équipe milanaise s'est offert un deuxième titre en remportant une nouvelle fois le championnat italien de Roller Derby en 2024."

We know the French Roller Derby championship and its Elite, National 1, National 2 divisions well. But how does Roller Derby work abroad?

We contacted the "Lega Italiana Roller Derby" to find out how the championship works in Italy. Find here a brief introduction to the transalpine championship.

MRD: "Hello LIRD, we contacted you to present the Italian Roller Derby on our website. We saw that the 2024 italian championship took place on May 25-26, can you tell us about the championship and the Roller Derby in Italy?

LIRD: First of all, thank you for contacting us. In Italy, roller derby is still very, very – very small. Today, there are only 13 leagues in the entire country and 8 of them participate in this year's championship. Any team wishing to participate in the tournament can do so by registering in August before the start of the season.

MRD: How are the games and the championship organized?

LIRD: This year we divided the teams into 2 groups based on last year's ranking. In group 1, there were the teams ranked 1, 3, 5 and 8 from last year and in group 2, the other teams. All these teams competed over four rounds, two per group. These four rounds took place in November, December, February and March in Bologna, which provides a central location for the participating teams. Then the 8 teams were brought together for a final weekend, this year in Padua on May 25-26. On Saturday May 25, the teams from the different groups competed against each other. Then on Sunday, May 26, four final knockout matches took place to establish the final ranking. The reason for spreading the championship over five weekends is that we want all the teams to play as much as possible.

MRD: How many years has the Italian championship been in existence?

LIRD: We are playing our third national championship in 2024. The “Brace For Impact”, the name of the Italian championship, started in 2021 right after the pandemic, during which the already weak Italian roller derby movement was hit hard.

MRD: Which teams have already won titles?

LIRD: The first Italian championships were won by the Anguanas of Vicenza then, in the second year, the Harpies of Milan took the first place. The Milanese team offered itself a second title by once again winning the Italian Roller Derby championship in 2024."
